A common condition is viral fever. However, as the seasons change, everyone becomes more wary of high fevers due to the emergence of other viral infections such as dengue fever, which share many of the same symptoms.
Supriya Kaushik and Radhika Sharma, who shared a room, experienced the same thing. They were both suffering from a high temperature and didn't want to take any chances.
For a correct diagnosis, they opted to contact Dr. Mayank Uppal, Consultant, General Medicine at Sitaram Bhartia Hospital.
The symptoms of viral fever include a high fever, headaches, and bodyaches. It's fairly frequent and normally doesn't cause too much concern.
"When you have a viral fever, your body may raise your temperature to try to clear the infection from your system. It's very frequent, especially in children and the elderly, who have weakened immune systems," Dr Mayank says during their session.
"Because of the identical symptoms, it might be difficult to distinguish between viral fever and dengue fever, which is why you'll require a clinical diagnosis and, if necessary, a dengue test."
A category of viral illnesses causes viral fever.
"Unlike dengue, which is spread by mosquitos, viral infection can spread through the air, water, or even from one person to another," explains Dr. Mayank.
Viruses can cause the following symptoms:
High fever with ups and downs
Appetite loss.
a pain in the body
Headache
Restlessness
Weakness
Chills
Cough
"Some people may also complain of a burning feeling in the eyes," Dr. Mayank adds.
Supriya and Radhika were both instructed to have a blood test after a medical checkup, which they did 24 hours after the fever started.
They were worried, so they took their reports to Dr. Mayank for a thorough examination.
Supriya was merely suffering from a case of viral fever, it turned out. On the other side, Radhika was diagnosed with Dengue Fever.
It might persist anywhere from four to seven days.
Mayank is a doctor. "The high temperature normally goes away after three days, but the weakness that comes with viral fever might last up to a week."
"Keep track of how long it takes you to get back on your feet. The length of a viral fever is important for managing it and determining whether it has a serious cause."
"It could be a severe ailment if the temperature doesn't lower, if you have strong headaches, or if you see strange skin rashes."
Dengue rashes: Symptoms, Appearance, and Meaning
Supriya's viral fever was treated with drugs, appropriate water, and relaxation.
For the treatment of viral fever, the appropriate medications should be administered. If your temperature is modest, you may be able to skip taking medications after talking with your doctor.
"Antibiotics should be avoided at all costs. In other circumstances, it may do more harm than benefit."
Radhika was given medications and instructions on how to treat dengue fever at home.
Supriya's temperature dropped in a few days, and she was back to normal after a week.
Radhika's fever fluctuated for a long period before ultimately dropping, and it took her a long time to regain her strength.
