Sonia Soupha: Today's Modern Muse: A Lean, Mean, Dancing Machine.

Get to know this Jelly-Limbed Lady, Sonia Soupha, and discover why we are inspired by her...

If you watched the video and wondered, "How is that possible?", you're not alone. Why is it so captivating? What are they doing with their LEGS?’ If so, you might be interested in learning more about French dancer Sonia Soupha, the human Slinky.

Read on for more info about Sonia Soupha.

Sonia performs her own unique style of street dance, which combines two very different disciplines: hip-hop and dancehall. The first thing we thought of was ballroom, but that's dancehall. Rather than twirling ballgowns and men prancing around in tuxedos, we want precision, strength and style.

Dance, not dunce.

Dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher Sonia Soupha is a member of the dance group Sènsuafro. We chose Sonia as one of our Modern Muses partly because she likely doesn't spend her evenings munching on crisps and watching Netflix.

Sofia's talent is impressive, but it takes a lot of effort to become a real-life lord of the dance. It takes determination, drive, and dancing until your knees fall off to get Sofia where she is today. Your knees will fall off again (probably) after you reattach them, attend auditions, suffer setbacks, and succeed.

A smooth movement, a funky groove and...wobbly hooves?

If you're a dancer (or already are one), here are some tips for making it big in the land of dance (a.k.a. Ireland):

  •  Stay in shape. The reason why Sonia can do all those crazy moves is because she is ridiculously strong. The majority of the population is ridiculously weak, so when we dance it looks like a blind giraffe rollerskating on ice.
  •  Tape your knees so they don't fall off while you dance. You'll be glad you did.
  •  Don't let setbacks bring you down. You should never give up on your dream just because you are disappointed or knocked back in life. Keep swimming (or dancing), according to a wise blue fish.
  •  Take dance classes with Sofia! Seriously. In addition to teaching in Paris and Lyon, she runs workshops all over the world.
  • There is something for everyone in dance, whether you want to pursue a career in dance, enjoy it as a hobby or are just mesmerized by Sofia's jelloid limbs... I'll give you another:
