WWE 2K22: Everything You Need to Know

WWE 2K22: Everything You Need to Know

Wrestling fans who play video games haven't had anything to cheer about in a long time. WWE 2K20 was such a letdown in 2019, that development on WWE 2K21 was put on hold. WWE 2K Battlegrounds, the arcade combatant that stepped in to fill the vacuum, wasn't any better. WWE 2K22 is under a lot of pressure to produce, which is why the development team has been working on it for more than two years.

The release date for NBA 2K22 is rapidly approaching, and we already know a lot about the game. All of this sounds quite optimistic, and it suggests that things might be different this time. Here's everything we know about WWE 2K22, including when it'll be released, how much it'll cost, and more.

Release Dates, Prices, And Preorders

WWE 2K22 will be released on March 11, 2022, according to a trailer showing a range of various WWE Superstars. Unless you choose an edition with early access, in which case you'll be able to play three days ahead of schedule starting March 8. More information on the various 2K22 versions, including pricing and what's included in each, can be found a little further down.

On PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the normal edition of 2K22 will cost $59.99, while the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will cost $69.99. There's no word yet on whether or not the game will be available for the Nintendo Switch. A somewhat more expensive cross-gen edition will be available, which will include a free next-gen upgrade, allowing you to play it on both the PS4 and PS5, as well as the Xbox One and Series X|S.

  • Standard Edition: As stated previously.
  • Cross-Gen Bundle: $79.99, which includes the possibility to update the game from cross-gen to new-gen. The Starrcade '96 Rey Mysterio Pack is also included.
  • The Deluxe Edition costs $99.99 and includes everything described above as well as a lot more. The Undertaker Immortals Pack, for example, contains three different forms of The Deadman. It also comes with all five DLC packs as they become available, which will most likely be sold individually otherwise. MyRISE Mega-Boost and SuperCharger packs are also available, as well as limited-edition WWE SuperCard content and early access beginning March 8.
  • The nWo 4-Life Edition costs $119.99 and includes everything from the Deluxe Edition as well as a slew of in-game nWo goodies to commemorate the faction's 25th anniversary. EVO MYFACTION WCW Souled Out 1997 and WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 arenas, as well as the nWo Wolfpac Championship, come with cards and alternate nWo clothing for Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Syxx, as well as a playable Eric Bischoff character.

Modes That Are Returning And Those That Are New

The question of who should appear on the cover of wrestling games each year is always a contentious one among fans. Because the year 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Rey Mysterio's WWE debut, 2K has chosen the renowned luchador to be the cover star this year. That means Mysterio will be the star of the 2K Showcase when it returns. The opportunity to participate in what will essentially be 2K22's storey mode. Play as Mysterio and go through his career, reliving some of his most memorable matches and moments.

Despite the fact that 2K22 would be a completely new game in the series, not everything from the prior games had to be removed. A lot of the elements and game types will stay the same. Universe Mode is still available, allowing you to build your own WWE by booking and competing in as many or as few matches as you choose. The Creation Suite will remain an important component of the game, allowing you to make yourself or create wrestlers that aren't currently on the roster if you're imaginative enough. You'll be able to use those creations in MyRISE, a mode in which you start at the bottom and work your way up to WWE superstardom.

Last year's announcement was maybe the most anticipated of all. MyGM is a mode that will be included in WWE 2K22. Yes, that will be the long-awaited return of SmackDown vs. Raw's GM Mode, or at least 2K's version of it. Players take on the role of a General Manager and are in charge of putting on a show, creating a squad and booking matches in order to put on the best possible event. It's presently unknown how comparable MyGM will be to the original GM Mode. MyFaction, a whole new mode in WWE 2K22, will be introduced. The finer points of this mode are also a little hazy. Players will, it appears, be able to gather cards that will allow them to create their ideal factions, with new missions to achieve each week. It's possible that it'll be comparable to FIFA's Ultimate Team, but there's no way of knowing for sure.

Better Appearance, Better Feel

Before the tragedy that was 2K20, wrestling games had felt more or less the same with an updated roster. The series was pushed off the edge of a cliff by technical, aesthetic, and graphical challenges, resulting in a pause. Changes in this area will determine whether WWE 2K22 succeeds or fails, and it appears that a lot of effort has gone into improving the game's appearance and feel. 2K22 will be powered by a new engine with enhanced visuals, new controls, and improved graphics. You'd think so, given that this is the first WWE game to be released on Sony's and Microsoft's new platforms. Because of the continuous lack of PS5s and Xbox Series X|S consoles, the graphics and playability will need to be good on last-gen systems as well.

Last but not least, there's the lineup. That's the one aspect of 2K22 that's still a bit of a mystery. The nWo, Edge, Mysterio, and Undertaker, as well as everyone else seen in the teaser, have all been confirmed for the game. Some freshly released Superstars may even make the cut, according to rumours. WWE 2K22 will be available for early access on March 8, 2022, while everyone else will be able to play on March 11, 2022. It will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
