Done With Today's Wordle? Try These Other Word Games

Are you finished with today's Wordle? Other Word Games to Try Puzzles aren't dead. From square-packed tweets to conversation over starter words to memes about the viral word game just acquired by The New York Times, Wordle has taken over social media.

In Wordle, players are challenged to guess a five-letter word in six or fewer guesses. After each guess, the game displays grey blocks for incorrect letters, yellow blocks for correct letters in the incorrect location, and green blocks for correct letters. It's addictive, but you have to wait until the next day to play again after you've solved the daily puzzle or used up all of your guesses (unless you check out Wordle Archive).

While you wait for your next Wordle, try one of these 14 puzzle games.

Master of Words

This Wordle reimagining gives you six chances to guess a five-letter word, but with a twist. Word Master uses the same grey, yellow, and green blocks as the original. What distinguishes it from Wordle? You don't have to wait 24 hours because Word Master gives endless games.

Word Master can be played in any web browser.

Greetings, Wordl

Hello Wordl, a Wordle clone, provides you six tries to guess a word and tracks your progress using the same coloured blocks. Hello Wordl allows you to alter the number of letters in the word you're guessing in addition to having unlimited games. Use the in-game slider to go all the way up to an 11-letter word or guess a four-letter word. Regardless of how long a word is, you have six chances to guess.

Hello Wordl is playable in any web browser.

Lewdle

The game's content advisory reads, "Before you play Lewdle, make sure you know what you're getting yourself into." "Lewdle is a game about using offensive phrases. Play Wordle instead if you're prone to be offended by profanity, vulgarity, or obscenity." It's like Wordle, except with a lot of terrible language. The words range from mild (like poopy) to sailor-friendly (like sailor). Slurs, despite the game's extensive list of filthy words, are not featured. You receive six chances to guess a five-letter word, the same grey, yellow, and green blocks are used, and there's only one puzzle per day, same like Wordle. Allow the foul language to flow!

Lewdle is playable on any web browser.

Absurdle

Absurdle bills itself as Wordle's "adversarial counterpart." While Wordle nudges you in the correct way with each guess, Absurdle, according to the game's website, "is deliberately trying to avoid giving you the answer." Absurdle does not provide the player a word to guess at the start of the game. Instead, it leverages the player's predictions to narrow down its list of terms, allowing the game to last as long as possible. It's also possible that the final word won't contain a yellow letter from one of your previous guesses. You can guess as many times as you like, which is advantageous, and the best score is four guesses. Have a blast!

Absurdle can be played on any web browser.

Crosswordle

Sure, Wordle is entertaining, but what if it also included a crossword puzzle? Enter the world of Crosswordle. You must figure out two words of varied lengths that connect with each other like a crossword puzzle in this Wordle-inspired game. The colour blocks are the same grey, yellow, and green, and there is one problem per day. You can, however, guess as many times as you like until you either get the words or give up. Crosswordle, unlike other Wordle-based games, allows you to construct your own own Crosswordle puzzle that you can share with your friends. Here's one I came up with. If Crosswordle wasn't difficult enough, the devs are working on a Hard Mode, according to the Settings page.

The Lord of the Rings is a fictional character in the Lord of the Rings franchise

The Lordle of the Rings is designed for Tolkien fans who want to join in the Wordle fun. Players get six chances to guess a five-letter word from the main Lord of the Rings text using the grey, yellow, and green blocks. Places like Rohan, well-known characters like Frodo and Smaug, and lesser-known characters like Turin, Hurin, and Idril are all possible guesses. There is just one puzzle per day, but you can play it as many times as you wish during that day.

Any online browser can be used to play Lordle of the Rings.

Primel

Primel is for you if you are more of a numbers guy. You get six chances to guess a five-digit prime number in this game. Color blocks in grey, yellow, and green are back, and you only get one puzzle every day. What makes this game even more unpleasant is that it only accepts prime numbers as guesses, which is challenging in and of itself. When you add in the Wordle element, you'll be left scratching your head.

Primel can be played on any web browser.

Nerdle

For those who are more interested in numbers, Nerdle is another alternative. You must, however, guess the math equation and solution this time. You get six chances to estimate the equation and solution, and the equation must be mathematically sound as well, so keep PEMDAS in mind. Numbers or symbols in the correct spot in the equation will be green, numbers or symbols in the wrong place in the equation will be purple, and numbers or symbols not in the equation will be black after each guess. After completing one problem, you must wait 8 hours before moving on to the next. Here's a hint: the "=" sign appears in the problem at all times. You'll be able to thank us later.

Nerdle can be played in any web browser.

Worldle

Don't like numbers or words? Take a chance on Worldle. This Wordle spinoff based on geography provides you six chances to guess which country or area is shown. After each guess, instead of grey, yellow, and green blocks denoting letters or numbers, you get distance, direction, and proximity %, similar to a hot and cold game. For example, if you guess Chile, Worldle may display 13,557 kilometres and a 32 percent arrow pointing northeast. This indicates that the proper country or territory is 13,557 kilometres northeast of Chile, with a closeness rate of 32 percent. You're cold, in other words. There is just one problem per day, and you can make the game more difficult by either not showing the country or rotating it randomly.

Worldle is playable in any web browser.

Friendship Words

What kind of word game list would be complete without this classic? Words With Friends is a virtual Scrabble game that has remained popular for more than a decade after its first release. You and your opponent, either another person or the computer, collect letters and form words on the board for points, with the winner being the person with the most points at the end.

You may play Words With Friends in any online browser or download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Word on the Street

Word Forward is a game similar to Boggle, but with the addition of power-ups and gadgets to assist you. You play on a five-by-five letter board and try to make words out of them. When you create a word, the letters you used vanish. You keep going until the board is clear. If you are stuck, you can use your power-ups and equipment to remove certain letters from the board or jumble the letters to replace them with new ones.

Word Forward is available on the App Store, Google Play Store, Nintendo Game Store for the Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

Wordscapes

Wordscapes is a crossword puzzle and Boggle hybrid. At the bottom of the screen is a bank of letters, and at the top is a crossword problem. You use the letters in your bank to form words and fill in the crossword. When you finish the puzzle, you'll be awarded with a beautiful landscape image.

Wordscapes is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Letter to a Kitty

The authors of The Oatmeal and Exploding Kittens have created Kitty Letter, a word game. You unscramble letters to form words, which then transform into armies of cats in the game. What are the cats' activities? They assault the player or machine you're competing against while also defending your house. It's a bizarre tower defence game in which your words summon legions of cats to fight for you.

Kitty Letter is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

SpellTower

Letters rise from the bottom of the screen in SpellTower, and you must compose words as quickly as possible. Each word you form eliminates the previously used letters, and the game terminates if any letter reaches the top of the screen. In that sense, it's similar to Tetris. There are ten different game modes to choose from, including Search Mode, which requires you to find the longest word using particular letters.

SpellTower is available on both the App Store and the Google Play Store. It's also available on Apple Arcade; there's a monthly price, but you'll get this and other games ad-free and with in-app purchases already unlocked.
