CatLife is the latest in Candywriter's series of life simulator games, and while it's essentially a re-skinned version of DogLife with the option to play as a cat or a dog, it's nonetheless a fascinating addition to the popular series that began with BitLife more than three years ago.
Unlike DogLife, which added the ribbons feature later, CatLife included it from the start. Ribbons are awarded at the conclusion of your virtual animal's life, with each one reflecting to how they lived their life before crossing the rainbow bridge.
We're going to start with CatLife by looking at six of the 23 ribbons you may collect in the game and diving deep into how to earn them, just as we did with DogLife. For the most part, these are among the simpler ribbons to gather, but as you will soon discover, it may be tough at times, as you may end up with a ribbon that is completely different from the one you were hoping for.
So, in this CatLife ribbon guide, we'll focus on the Ordinary, Bad Kitty, Killer Cat, Purrfect, and Alpha ribbons and teach you how to acquire them using the finest tactics.
There are various ways to obtain the Ordinary ribbon in CatLife, but the same approach applies to the Ordinary ribbon in DogLife and the Mediocre ribbon in BitLife. You want to go with the flow when controlling your cat (or dog) in CatLife, but you also want to avoid any situations that can qualify you for another ribbon accidently. You can act out and be reprimanded, but you should try to avoid being scolded excessively by the humans in your life.
You can attack or submit to other animals, but not to the point where you gain enough respect to be an Alpha or a low enough degree of respect that you are doomed to Omega status for the rest of your life. You should also avoid situations where you may be too liked by your owners or have an excessive number of progeny from various spouses.
Finally, you will be able to obtain the Ordinary ribbon without exerting too much effort; yet, as we have seen, exerting too much effort to obtain this ribbon may result in you receiving a completely different ribbon. As a result, it's important to see where your game leads you – if it leads to another ribbon, great. However, if you obtain the Ordinary ribbon, it should be the first of many to come as you continue to play CatLife and meet new scenarios.
The Bad Kitty ribbon is awarded to CatLife cats (or canines) that "spent their entire lives being punished." This is, without a doubt, the game's counterpart of Bad Dog in DogLife, and the same rules apply. Continue to act up around the home, messing with them, jumping or lunging or hissing at them, or, even worse, spraying them with your pee.
If your actions get you taken to the shelter, you can keep up the act there by being aggressive, but not downright evil, toward the staff members, which would include doing everything we outlined before, as well as fighting with other animals whenever the opportunity arises. In a nutshell, the purpose is to irritate humans as much as possible with your activities.
When attempting to obtain the Bad Kitty ribbon, it is important to avoid murdering other animals, particularly humans. If you murder too many cats, dogs, or other animals, you may receive the Killer Cat ribbon; if you kill a human, you may be euthanized, earning you the Wasteful ribbon for dying early and squandering your potential. So, while it's important to be close to your worst conduct in order to win the Bad Kitty ribbon, don't go all out.
You should also avoid getting into too many conflicts with other animals at home, in the pet store, or at the shelter, as this may lead to Alpha Male or Female status, which will increase your chances of receiving a different ribbon. (Which we'll go through in detail in this guide!)
This ribbon is easiest to obtain for animals with high Strength, which is only changeable during character creation if God Mode is activated. To get the Killer Cat ribbon, you must "be responsible for numerous fatalities," which you can do in a variety of ways.
Humans can also be killed, but as this may attract the notice of Animal Control and lead to you being euthanized sooner than you wish, we recommend focusing your efforts on other animals. When attacking another creature (or a person, though this is best done after multiple animal murders), Slice, Slash, Maul, Mangle, and Chomp are all excellent options, and the throat, crotch, neck, and even the tongue are all suitable targets.
If you have low Strength, don't anticipate much, but given that you can't modify Strength if you don't have God Mode, the best thing to do here is to keep going for the kill even if you kill one or two animals early in life. We don't have a precise figure for how many kills are required to earn the Killer Cat ribbon, but seven or eight seems like a respectable goal to shoot towards.
You might win another ribbon if you perform a few other things exceptionally "well" aside from fatally attacking other cats, dogs, or other animals, as is customary. For example, you could become Bad Kitty if your acts were also punished by humans several times, therefore choosing the streets as your habitat will give you the best chance of avoiding such an override. You won't come into too much touch with humans this way, so you won't have to worry about being chastised for your violent behaviour.
"Live a happy and beloved life," according to the ribbon's description, thus Happiness and Love are the two stats to keep an eye on here. The Purrfect ribbon can be earned in almost any habitat except the streets (where there are no people serving as owners, handlers, or authority figures), however it appears that choosing Home as your habitat gives you the best chance of acquiring it.
Of course, there's a potential you'll end up with a horrible owner who won't show you much love, but if their Friendliness numbers are high, you'll have a good chance of obtaining this ribbon.
Positive interactions are the most important thing to remember when striving to acquire the Purrfect ribbon. That means cuddling with people, cheering them up when they're down, and treating diverse family members with love and kindness on your own initiative, not simply when the Age button is pressed.
You'll also need some kind-hearted humans at home, the pet shop, or the shelter, but another reason why Home is the greatest habitat to choose is the nature of how pet stores and shelters operate — these aren't necessarily joyful places.
It appears that telling your owners you love them moments before being euthanized (we're not crying; you are) boosts your chances of receiving the Purrfect ribbon, so if it comes to that, make sure you convey your love for them one last time.
Obtaining the Alpha ribbon can be difficult, similar to what you may have encountered while playing DogLife. After all, CatLife claims that being a "pack leader for life" qualifies you for this ribbon. Take this with a grain of salt, as the ability to act violently toward other animals does not appear until you reach the age of six months.
However, after you've mastered the ability to hiss, flash your but, spray, or do any of the other awesome things that could make you a badass in the Dominance Hierarchy, use it whenever possible. Regardless of the habitat, assert your dominance by acting like a bully among your group. But don't go so far as to kill animals your size (eating a smaller animal alive might be a better choice), because if you go too far, you might end up in Killer Cat territory.
On that note, you should choose your conflicts carefully and avoid hissing at an animal with high Strength and Aggressiveness. These creatures deal a lot of damage when they attack, and if you get counter-attacked by an animal you just clawed, sprayed, or attacked in some other way, you may lose your Alpha Male/Female status and be pushed down the hierarchy.
Act apathetic or unwelcoming to any new cats, dogs, or other animals that may join the picture in the future to keep your alpha status. Never back down from a fight, and enlist the help of another animal to do your dirty work if you don't want to get hurt. Your esteem for them may rise if they successfully carry out your instructions, but it may suffer if the animal you choose loses the fight.
This ribbon is the polar opposite of the Alpha ribbon, and it is far easier to obtain because all you have to do is submit to everyone to assure a lifetime of being at the bottom of the Dominance Hierarchy. You don't even have to wait till another animal attacks you; once the Submit option is available (at 6 months), simply choose the current Omega Male or Omega Female, submit to them, and presto: you're at the bottom of the food chain.
Continue to surrender when attacked by other animals – not only will this keep you at the bottom, but it will also keep you from being attacked and losing even more Health. (This is especially crucial if you live on the streets, as your health will deteriorate as you become older.)
Act hospitable toward every new animal that arrives, regardless of habitat, to further cement your lowly status as the Omega Male or Female. Be as apathetic as possible, avoid getting involved in disputes, and show love to the animals with whom you get along.
Also, if you work at a pet store or an animal shelter, be cooperative with the people who work there. Other animals despise it when they observe their own species interacting with humans, and this will erode your Respect even further, or bring it back to zero if it has crept back up to the 5-10% level.
If you want to win the Omega ribbon, you must be passive, so don't hesitate to submit when the opportunity arrives!
