Other schools in The Witcher 3 avoid the Cat School for a variety of reasons, ranging from flexible morals to questionable jobs.
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the School of the Cat is one of the most well-known. Geralt's chats with Lambert and Vesemir provide information about the feline Witchers and their behaviour. There are also several chances to run into Witchers from the School of the Cat, however not all of these encounters end happily.
The School of the Cat has been around for a long time in The Witcher universe, and there's a reason why Witchers from other schools despise their tactics. The Cat School's reputation is well-deserved, thanks to their use of dangerous mutagens in their rituals and their willingness to take on assassination contracts.
After a group of roughly 15 to 20 persons broke away from the Order of Witchers, the School of the Cat was formed. After the Bear and Viper Schools, they were the third splinter organisation to arise, with its headquarters in Stygga Castle in the realm of Ebbing. Members of the new Witcher school volunteered their services as mercenaries, spies, and even assassins to gain favour with the people, earning the respect of both the populace and the aristocrats.
Even as the Cat School's renown expanded, there was strife growing within its ranks. The mages who worked with the Cat School intended to develop a Witcher mutation that would remove all feelings from a person. While the early feline Witchers were able to accomplish this, the wizards wanted to push the envelope. However, a handful of mutations failed because the experimental mutagens caused the would-be Witchers' emotions to become more intense.
In order to find a cure for the fault, these powerful wizards imprisoned the "failed" Witchers and subjected them to severe experimentation. Gezras, a failed Witcher, manages to flee from his magical tormentors. He sought refuge with a band of elves in exchange for assistance in combating their human foes. This tarnished the Cat School's repute and attracted royal notice.
The local royalty had planned a full-scale assault on Stygga Castle not long after. Gezras and his allies infiltrated the castle and killed all the mages while they slept, preventing the royal army from marching. As a result, the feline Witchers were susceptible to the approaching attack. As a result, all of the remaining Witchers in the castle were massacred.
Meanwhile, Gezras and his companions proceeded out from Ebbing, taking in outcasts and severely altered Witchers. They established the Dyn Marv Caravan and began providing their services to anyone who could afford it, whether it was for a monster contract or an assassination mission. Gezras' band also adopted new Witcher mutation techniques, resulting in Witchers that were more hostile.
Another feature that distinguishes the Cat School is that it accepts non-human and female students. They're the only Witcher school that does this; the others only take human males. Furthermore, this new Cat School under Gezras had no neutrality code. As a result, feline Witchers had no qualms about accepting political assassination contracts or even siding with the elves in wars (as seen in The Witcher).
The Witchers of the Cat School are notorious for a variety of reasons. Their ties with elves and reputation as hired killers have tarnished their image in the eyes of the general population, especially nobles and royalty. Meanwhile, the other Witcher schools have shunned them due to their powerful Witcher mutations and lack of a neutrality rule. In The Witcher 3, they are portrayed as murderers who would take any job for money.
During Geralt's adventures in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, he will come across a number of Witchers from the Cat School. Aiden and Jad Karadin are mentioned in The Witcher 3 quest "Follow the Thread." The latter is a former Witcher who now leads a small group of assassins. He changed his name and his habits many years later, becoming a well-known trader and philanthropist in Novigrad.
Kiyan is a feline Witcher in The Witcher 3. He was eventually killed by a mage, but before that, he had taken on a contract to assassinate a party of academics who were searching for a treasure buried in an elf ruin. He kept his end of the bargain by quickly killing the students and their professor after they discovered Est Tayiar's riches. He then went on his way after collecting his cash.
Gaetan, the feline Witcher, is the final character. Following the completion of the Witcher 3 monster contract "The Beast of Honorton," a new task titled "Where the Cat and Wolf Play..." will appear. This will lead Geralt to investigate the settlement of Honorton, where he will discover that its residents have been murdered. After more investigation, the player will come upon Millie, a little girl who will present Geralt with a Cat medallion. She'll then direct Geralt in the direction of the feline Witcher's whereabouts. The player is led to Gaetan as a result of this.
The citizens of Honorton offered him a modest fee for a leshen contract, according to the Cat School Witcher. Regardless, Gaetan accepted the task and killed the monster. When he returned to collect his money, however, the locals attempted to murder him. Gaetan was enraged by this and massacred the entire town, with the exception of Millie. Geralt now has the option of killing or sparing Gaetan. Whatever the player chooses, the task must be completed by returning to Millie and delivering her to her aunt in the town of Oreton.
The most infamous features of the Cat School are represented by these feline Witchers. It's Jad Karadin and Kiyan's casual acceptance of terrible assassination jobs. Gaetan's problem is his irritability, which is a result of the Cat School's Witcher mutations. It demonstrates, to some measure, that the public's dislike for the Witchers of the Cat School is legitimate.
