Ways to Fix Microphone Not Working on iPad

The iPad is an ideal device for taking video calls, engaging in virtual conferences, and participating in group calls due to its portability. Apple has also updated the main camera configuration with the Pro lineup. However, if the device's microphone quits working, you'll have problems.

A malfunctioning microphone on an iPhone can be caused by a number of things. First, use the camera app to check the microphone, and then move on to the troubleshooting methods.

1. CHECK MICROPHONE ON IPAD

Open the camera app on your iPad and make a video to test the device's microphone. In the video, try to catch the ambient sound.

Play the video in the Photos & App. If you can hear the sound, the microphone on the iPad is working properly. It's conceivable that the problem is only with a third-party app you're attempting to utilise. The device microphone is not functional if the iPad fails to record audio in the video.

2. REMOVE CASE

Some case makers may not provide perfect cutouts for iPad microphones to work properly. Examine the iPad case you're using closely to see whether it's obstructing the microphone openings.

You can take the case off and make a video to see if the microphone works.

3. DISCONNECT BLUETOOTH DEVICES

While most TWS (total wireless stereo) devices will disconnect when placed in the enclosure, others may work as planned. If your iPad is linked to a TWS or Bluetooth earphone, it will continue to use the microphone on the associated device to complete the task.

Open the Control Center menu by swiping down from the upper right corner. Check to see if any Bluetooth devices are linked and disconnect them.

4. MAKE SURE THE APP HAS MICROPHONE PERMISSION

On startup, apps like Zoom, Meet, and Teams will ask for microphone permission. If you unintentionally refused the permission, the app will not be able to use the device's microphone as intended.

From the iPad's Settings menu, you can grant required permission.

Step 1: Open Settings on iPad.

Step 2: Scroll down to the app on which you are facing microphone problems.

Step 3: It will open the ‘Allow app to access’ menu. Enable Microphone toggle.

Repeat the same for all the necessary apps on the iPad.

5. RESET SETTINGS

A misconfigured setting on your iPad can cause the microphone to stop working. You can revert to the default settings on iPadOS.

Step 1: Launch Settings on iPad.

Step 2: Go to the General menu.

Step 3: Select Transfer or Reset iPad.

Step 4: Tap on Reset and select Reset All Settings.

6. CLEAN IPAD MICROPHONE

There's a good chance that if there's work going on near your property, dust will collect over the iPad's microphone.

To clean the iPad microphone, use a soft-bristled brush or painter's tape.

7. UNMUTE MICROPHONE

Apps such as Google Meet and Zoom have a specific Mute button that turns off the microphone. This option is intended to avoid upsetting someone or causing embarrassment during the call.

During a video call, most people switch off their microphone until their time comes up. Before you begin speaking in video calls, make sure the microphone is unmuted. Otherwise, no one on the other end of the line would be able to hear you.

8. UPDATE THE PROBLEMATIC APP

Is it only in one app that you're having problems with the microphone? It's possible that you'll need to download the most recent app update from the iPad App Store.

On your iPad, go to the App Store and tap the account image at the top. Check the microphone again after installing the upcoming update.

9. GET IPAD OUT OF ‘STUCK HEADPHONE MODE’

Even if you don't have any wired headphones plugged into the 3.5mm connector, your iPad may get stuck in headphone mode. The iPad will continue to accept audio input from the microphones of the connected device.

You'll need to clean the headphone jack and disable headphone mode on your iPad.

10. UPDATE IPADOS

You must update the iPadOS to the most recent version to enjoy the optimum performance and a bug-free OS experience.

Go to the General menu in Settings. To fix small issues in the OS, go to Software update and install the pending update.
