Adobe Reader can be used to preview PDF files in Outlook. An Outlook 2007 preview handler, Outlook 2010 handler, and Outlook 2013 preview handler are included.
Note:
In Outlook 2013, you can preview pdf files natively when using Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 or newer.. When you double-click a pdf-file, it will open in the Reader app and can even be edited in Word 2013. You no longer need to install Adobe Reader.
Windows 7 or earlier users who wish to search inside PDF-attachments in Outlook and Windows need to install an iFilter for PDF-files. This is automatically installed when you install Adobe Reader when you are using a 32-bit version of Windows.
An additional installer is required for 64-bit versions of Windows, which you can download below.
Note:
Indexing of PDF files is natively supported in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 and later. The Reader Search Handler is used in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. The Adobe PDF iFilter is therefore optional.
64-bit PDF iFilter can also search inside PDF files in server products such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and 2010, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and 2010, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Exchange 2013 and SharePoint 2013 come with their own PDF iFilter.want, you can configure it to use the Adobe PDF iFilter as follows:
