On Android phones, Gboard is one of the most popular keyboards. The keyboard is also available for iPhone users due to its popularity. It has more functionality than the standard Apple keyboard and offers numerous customization choices. In fact, you might be shocked to learn that several of these features are available on Gboard for iOS but not for Android.

Here's how to get the most out of Gboard on your iPhone by customising and theming it.
Gboard for Android allows you to customise the backdrop colour of your keyboard. Thanks to Material You, you can now have it pick a colour based on your background with new upgrades. You can also use a custom image from your gallery as a background.
While the same settings are available on Gboard for iPhone, the small edit icon underneath each theme allows you to take things a step further. You can customise the backdrop, keys, text within the keys, border, pop-up, and other elements with different colours. If you enjoy customising things, you'll appreciate this feature.
As previously stated, you can adjust various elements of Gboard on iOS devices. This is the most basic of all the options.
Step 1: Open the Gboard app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Themes to get access to the customization features.
Step 3: Scroll through the various theme options from Default, Landscapes, Light gradient, and Dark gradient.
Step 4: Pick the one you want to use for your keyboard. If you did not like any of the themes, scroll back up and tap on the ‘+’ thumbnail below the Custom option.
Step 5: Go through your images in the Photos app and pick the one you want to use as background.
Step 6: Make any necessary changes to your image in order to utilise it as a background. After that, select Choose.
That'll become a Gboard theme. This is, however, just the basic theme with no customisation options. Here's how to adjust and edit the keyboard's additional features.
Now that you have selected the basic theme for your keyboard, it’s time for more granular customization.
Step 1: Choose the basic theme you want to proceed with by following the steps above.
Step 2: Once you’ve selected the theme, tap on the small Edit icon on the bottom-right portion of the thumbnail.
Step 3: This is where you will see all your customization options. A preview of the keyboard is displayed on the bottom half of the screen so that you can view your changes in real-time.
The effect will display on the keyboard below after you choose a colour from the Background colour drop-down option. You can play about with all of the options until you find one you like.
Scroll down to the Keys section at the bottom of the page. To entirely disable the backdrop for keys, switch off the toggle next to 'Enable background on keys.' For a more uniform appearance, you can also turn off the 'Enable background on non-text keys' option.
You can change the backdrop colour from a range of alternatives if you wish to disable the background.
You'll need a dark text colour if you go with a light background. You can also select that under the Text colour option.
At this stage, you can optionally activate an additional border around each key by selecting the 'Enable borders around keys' option. Then, for the border, choose a suitable colour.
If you've enabled it, you can now change the background colour for non-text keys. These keys include backspace, shift, enter, and so on.
You can also click the box next to 'Enable borders around non-text keys' to add borders to the extra keys for a more uniform look. To use a colour, go to Border colour and select one from the list.
Scroll down to the "Key pop-ups" section. The background colour of the key pop-ups can be changed here. Choose a colour and then press a key on the keyboard to get a feel of what it would look like.
You can also change the text colour within the pop-up. To view what a key looks like, tap it again.
Swipe Trail is the result of using swipe motions on your keyboard to type. You can adjust the appearance of the Swipe trail colour by using the colour palette under it.
Choose a colour you like and swipe on the keyboard to see it in action.
The thickness of the swipe trail can also be adjusted using the slider.
When the final choice, Swipe trail sparkles, is turned on, multiple Google logos will appear on the sides of the keyboard as you type.
Once you've selected and adjusted all of the relevant choices, tap the DONE icon in the top-right corner of the Gboard app. As a result, the keyboard layout will be retained.
To make your keyboard truly yours, choose from a range of themes and personalization options. Those choices are the same in all of your Phone's apps. You may even create multiple themes and switch between them to get a new look every now and then.
