Windows highlight backgrounds are one of the unique aspects of Windows that I miss on other platforms. The quality of the wallpapers is what sets it apart. The majority of the time, Windows highlight wallpapers are stunning. Unfortunately, you can only use these wallpapers on the lock screen on Windows 10. However, if you're running Windows 11, you won't need any third-party programmes.
Let's take a look at how you may use Windows Spotlight Wallpapers on your Windows 11 computer.
Window spotlight backgrounds can now be used on the desktop directly from the settings app in Windows 11. Let's have a look at this choice.
Return to the desktop, and your Windows highlight wallpaper should now be visible. A new desktop icon labelled Learn about this photo will also appear. This is comparable to all of the links on the lock screen's Windows spotlight image. When you open it, you'll be taken to Bing, where you may learn more about the subject depicted in the image.
If you dislike desktop icons as much as I do, there isn't much you can do right now. When you right-click the icon, you'll get a few options, one of which is to switch to the next wallpaper. There is also the option to erase the icon, however it merely reappears when the desktop is refreshed.
To get spotlight wallpapers on your Windows 10 desktop, you'll need to use third-party programmes. Fortunately, there are a plethora of such apps available. However, many of those apps have extra features and backgrounds that you may or may not require.
We'll use a simple app for this tutorial that has all of the features we need without being too cluttered. Dynamic Theme is a free programme available on the Microsoft Store that is one of the few third-party apps that adhere to the Windows 11 design.
If you don't want the background image to change every day, you can choose One Windows Spotlight picture. You can also choose to store each wallpaper to your selected location on a daily basis.
The Dynamic Theme app also lets you have the same Windows spotlight wallpaper for your lock screen. The difference is that with Dynamic Theme, you don’t get the desktop link to “Learn more about this picture”. That can be a good or bad thing depending on how useful you think that feature is.
It's the same whether you use Dynamic Theme's Windows highlight wallpapers on the lock screen. Links will no longer cover your lock screen wallpaper. For these reasons, Dynamic Theme can also be used to create Windows highlight backdrops for desktops in Windows 11. However, if you want the highlight wallpapers for your desktop on Windows 10, you'll need a third-party programme like this.
