How to Lock a Discord Channel on a Computer and on a Mobile Device

Discord, being one of the most popular community-building tools, allows friends, family, and acquaintances to keep in touch. You can create many channels for different reasons on a Discord server. Different relationship-based channels, for example, for family or friends. You can also make channels depending on your hobbies, such as art or gaming.

If different channels are built on a server, however, other members of the server will be able to access them. You may control who has access to a channel by making it private or prohibiting particular actions, such as sending messages. Here's how to apply either technique.

BY MAKING A CHANNEL PRIVATE, YOU CAN LOCK IT.

When you make a Discord channel private, it is hidden from other server members. Server roles or admin invites will determine who has access to these channels. To make a channel private, follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Launch the Discord app.

To make a Discord channel private, you must either be a server administrator or have the right permissions.

Step 2: By the left of your Discord app, you should see a list of servers you have access to. Click on the server hosting the channel that you need to hide.

Step 3: When the Discord server loads, you should be able to see the various text and voice channels that are available. Click the Edit Channel icon, which is represented by a gear symbol, to hide the channel name.

You must hover your cursor over the channel name to see the gear icon for that channel.

Step 4: On the new window, click on Permissions.

Step 5: Toggle the Private Channel toggle until a green fill appears. The private option has been activated if the fill is green.

Only users who have been added to the channel before you enable the Private Channel toggle will be able to see it. The channel is also visible and usable by any user with the Server Owner or Administrator position on the server.

Step 6: To grant certain individuals access to the Private Channel, click on the Add members or roles button.

Step 7: After adding members or roles, click on Done.

Step 8: Click on Advanced permissions.

Step 9: The roles or members are listed under Roles/Members. To delete a role or member's access, go to General Channel Permissions and click the x next to View Channel.

Step 10: After you've selected your rights, click Save Changes, which appears as a pop-up on the website.

On Android or iPhone, the process for making a channel private is similar to the one described above.

DISABLING COMMENTS TO LOCK A CHANNEL

Instead of totally restricting the view for a certain channel, you can disable comments. If you need to construct a channel for sending out news or rules, this approach may be preferable. You can turn a channel into a Read-only channel by turning off comments. To disable comments solely for a channel, follow these steps:

Step 1: At the top of the window, click on the drop-down arrow beside the server’s name.

Step 2: Click on Server Settings.

Step 3: Click on Create Role to assign roles to server members.

Step 4: Go to the bottom of the window and click on Save.

Step 5: Navigate back to the server main page and click on the Gear icon beside the channel name.

Step 6: Click on Permissions and Advanced Permissions.

Step 7: Under Roles/Members, you should see the roles or members you created. Click on a role or member.

Step 8: Scroll down to Text Channel Permissions.

Step 9: To block members from sending messages to the channel, click the x button next to the Send Messages field. To allow access to a specific member, click their name and check the box to guarantee they may send messages.

Step 10: To save your changes, go to the bottom of the window and click Save.
