Vimeo isn't just another video-sharing platform like YouTube. The two video hosting platforms have significant distinctions. While YouTube caters to creators and people, Vimeo caters to businesses and enterprises looking to showcase their brand. These distinctions become obvious when you post a film to Vimeo from a desktop or mobile device. Unlike YouTube, Vimeo offers a variety of plans, including Basic, Plus, Pro, Business, and Premium. You gain higher upload quota, storage limit, account and player customisation, and analytics with each succeeding subscription.
Let's take a brief look at Vimeo's plans and storage options before we get started uploading the videos.
The most basic plan is free, with a total storage capacity of 5GB. There is also a weekly upload constraint of 500 MB and a daily limit of 10 videos. It's fine for uploading a few films, but if you have any long-term aspirations, you should go for a subscription.
The Plus and Pro plans have a weekly upload cap of 5GB and 20GB, respectively, but no storage limit. The monthly fees for each plan are $7 and $20, respectively. You may modify the player and turn your account into a team account with these plans, allowing team members to upload and manage movies.
You can acquire an unlimited weekly upload quota with the Business and Premium plans, which cost $50 and $75 each. However, there are still storage constraints of 5TB and 7TB. You can receive limitless live streaming support with Vimeo premium.
All of the programmes come with a 7-day free trial.
Vimeo accepts a variety of video formats, but MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, and FLV are the most popular. If a file type isn't supported, an Invalid File error will appear while uploading. Vimeo only accepts video files. Images and audio files are not allowed to be uploaded.
Vimeo does not compress videos when they are uploaded. Given the weekly limitation and storage limits, compressing the movie before uploading is preferable. They do have file type and compression guidelines.
Now that you've learned about Vimeo's plans, storage limits, and file types it accepts, here's how to use a web browser to post your video to Vimeo.
1. Go to the Vimeo website and sign in with Google, Apple, Facebook, or your email address.
2. When you're finished, hover your mouse over the New video button in the top right corner and pick Upload from the drop-down menu.
3. Drag and drop the video from local storage into the Upload page. You can also upload from online storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive.
4. You can add a title, description, privacy settings, tags, and other parameters while uploading.
5. When you're finished, click Save.
Depending on the size of the movie, Vimeo can take anything from a few minutes to many hours to display it. You must subscribe if you want to lessen your waiting time. You'll find the video in your profile's Videos area once the process is complete.
1. Install the Vimeo app, launch it, and sign in to the service.
2. In the bottom bar of the homepage, tap the Plus icon +.
3. Select Upload from the menu that appears to choose a video from your local storage. You may also record your screen or make a video to upload right here.
4. Select the video you want to upload by tapping on the Select Photos button.
5. After that, cut the video, give it a title, a description, and any other details you like. When you're finished, click Upload to send the movie to the server.
1. Install the Vimeo app, launch it, and sign in to the service.
2. Select the Upload option in the bottom bar on the webpage.
3. Now allow the app access to upload videos to storage.
4. Then, to upload the video, choose it from your local storage.
5. After you've finished uploading, give it a title, description, tags, and privacy settings, then click Done.
In a few minutes, you'll be able to find the video on your profile.
You can invite individuals to your account and convert it into a team account if you choose a subscription level that is pro or higher. A pro member can have up to three team members, while a premium member can have up to ten. Anyone joined to your account after you changed it into a team account will have the option to post the video.
Hover over the profile symbol in the top right corner and pick the Settings option to add a team member. Select Account and then Manage team from the options sidebar. Now click the +Add team member button and fill in the email address of the team member in the pop-up window. This will send an email to your team member inviting them to join you.
To add the video to a team account, go to Vimeo > New Video > Upload and fill out the form. A team switcher is located underneath the Or choose file button. To upload to that account, click on it and pick the account from the drop-down menu. To upload the video to a team account, continue the upload process.
Vimeo gives you the option of replacing an old video with a new one. So that when the video needs to be updated, the links you've shared and the advertising you've done earlier won't be lost.
To replace the Vimeo video, do the following:
1. On the Vimeo homepage, hover over the profile symbol and pick Videos from the drop-down menu.
2. All of your uploaded videos can be found on the Videos page. Select the Replace option from the three-dot menu on the video you want to replace.
3. It will take you to the video's versions page. To confirm, click the Replace video button and then Replace on the pop-up.
4. This will launch your file manager, where you may choose the video file you want to replace and then click Open.
This will create a new video with the same title, description, and link as the previous one. If you have a basic or extra plan, the old one will be erased after the new one is installed. For Pro, Business, and Premium subscribers, however, it will keep all previous versions until you delete them manually. Remember that the old videos you've replaced will take up space in your storage limit.
The weekly upload allowance will still be used once the video is posted and erased, but the space used will be released. Along with the above-mentioned programmes, Vimeo now offers an Enterprise package, which must be customised to your needs by contacting Vimeo. You can also publish your video to Pinterest, Instagram, Odysee, Dailymotion, and other sites besides Vimeo and YouTube. However, they are all aimed towards distinct audiences.
