How to Use Discord's Two-Factor Authentication

How to Use Discord's Two-Factor Authentication

With Discord being so popular, you may want to keep your account information secure. If your personal information is exposed or becomes a part of your Discord account, it becomes readily hackable.

Discord allows you to enable two-factor authentication, often known as 2FA, which adds an extra layer of security when attempting to get into the app. Discord does not grant access to anyone until their identity is verified. This is how it works.

DISCORDING WITH AUTHENTICATORS

2FA adds an extra degree of security to your account. As a result, it assures that only you have access to your account. Discord allows you to use an authenticator when you enable 2FA. The following are the two alternatives:

  • Google Authenticator: To use the Google Authenticator app, you must first select your preferred input method. There are two options: type the provided key or scan a QR code. Scanning a QR code using your iPhone's camera is simple. If you're using an Android device, you'll need to install a barcode scanner app before you can scan the QR code.
  • Authy: To validate your device, enter your email address and phone number into the Authy authenticator. You have the option of verifying your device via text message or phone call. After that, hit the + button in the centre of the screen to add a new account. This sends you to the Authentication Accounts screen, where you can enter the code or scan a QR code.

Aside from the authenticators listed above, you can obtain others through the Google or Apple shops. All you have to do is use the authenticating app to scan the QR code presented on Discord.

ON DISCORD, ENABLE TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

Here's what you should do if you want to utilise any of the above authenticators for 2FA:

Step 1: Launch Discord on your device.

Step 2: Go to the bottom of the screen and tap on the Gear icon just after your display picture.

Step 3: On the Settings menu, click My Account to view your personal information.

Step 4: Scroll down the list of options and select Enable Two-Factor Auth.

Step 5: Provide your Password to verify your identity and click on Continue.

Step 6: Download any of Google Authenticator or Authy from the app store to your phone. In this case, we will be using Google Authenticator.

Step 7: Launch the authenticator on your phone.

Step 8: You can either opt to scan the QR code initially displayed on Discord or input the code on Discord into the authenticator.

Step 9: Enter the code displayed on your authenticator app to Discord and click on Activate. 2FA becomes active once the app accepts the codes.

Step 10: For extra security and to guard against a situation where you lose your phone, you can add your phone as a backup. You can also download backup codes and store them somewhere secure.

Step 11: Tap Done to save your settings and continue using Discord.

The method described above can also be used to enable 2FA on iPhone and Android devices.

DISCORD'S TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION IS IMPOSSIBLE.

Certain circumstances necessitate temporarily disabling 2FA. Perhaps you anticipate that your phone will be inaccessible for an extended length of time. If you ever find yourself in this circumstance, use these procedures to turn off two-factor authentication on Discord:

Step 1: Launch Discord on your device.

Step 2: Go to the bottom of the screen and tap on the Gear icon just after your display picture.

Step 3: On the Settings menu, click My Account to view your personal information.

Step 4: Scroll down the list of options and beneath the ‘Two-Factor Authentication Enabled’ section, click on Remove 2FA.

Step 5: Type in the Discord Auth code from the authenticator app. Alternatively, you can enter your Discord backup code.

Step 6: To validate the process, tap Remove 2FA.

2FA ENSURES ACCOUNT SAFETY

Discord without 2FA is less stressful and allows you to enter your account more quickly. It does, however, expose your account to bad individuals, making you vulnerable to hacks. That's how 2FA protects your Discord login information.
