  • Insiders on the Dev Channel have been given a new build to test for the newest operating system.
  • In a part of the Start menu, the ability to create and manage folders is being tested.
  • The improved focused sessions features can help users become more productive.
  • Live captions, which are incorporated for greater accessibility, are also included in this build.

After receiving an update only a few days ago, it's the Beta Channel Insiders' turn to sit on the bench and watch as the opposition team receives the new ball this week.

After a two-week period of no Dev channel releases, the Redmond-based software giant has finally released build 22557.

You should be aware that this Dev channel release is currently being moved to the NI RELEASE or Nickel branch in anticipation of Windows 11's major feature update later this year.

There's a lot of new stuff here, including a redesigned Task Manager, Focus, and new Snap layouts, among other things.

However, before we dive in and find out what Microsoft altered with this latest software patch, let's have a look at the TLDR section:

  • The name of the branch from which we're distributing builds has changed to NI RELEASE, as Windows Insiders will note. The branch from which we distribute Insider builds in the Dev Channel has no bearing on the features and enhancements contained in them. We will no longer keep track of when these branch modifications happen in the future. Please read this blog article for more information on how we release items to the Dev Channel.
  • ARM64 PCs will not be able to run this build. We expect to be able to provide a fresh build for Insiders on ARM64 PCs in the near future.
  • Insiders can check out a number of new features in this build, including folders in the pinned apps area of Start, live captions, a redesigned Focus experience, File Explorer Quick Access improvements, new touch gestures, and more.
  • This build also includes a slew of general Windows 11 enhancements and adjustments.
  • Some of the new features and enhancements being introduced with this build include some new known issues, so be sure to read over them before sending comments.
  • We've improved the speed with which you can access your recent Android apps from the Your Phone app. Details are provided below.
  • Our next Windows Insider webcast will take place on Tuesday, February 22nd at 10 a.m. PST / 6 p.m. UTC. We'll talk about "Filing Feedback on Difficult Bugs," logs that can be useful, and giving content links that you can refer to. Make a note of it in your calendar and tune in!

According to Microsoft, this functionality was added to the new Dev Channel build for Windows 11 as a result of user input.

To make a folder, simply drag one app over the top of another. You may add more apps to a folder, reorganise apps within it, and delete apps from it.

With DND and Focus, Microsoft claims to have redesigned focus experiences on Windows. While do not disturb makes it simple to turn off notifications, Focus is a brand-new experience that allows everyone to stay present.

Attention combines with the Clock app for extra focus aids, such as a focus timer and calming music, to help you stay on target.

Live captions have also been added to this build, which will enable everyone, including deaf or hard-of-hearing persons, better understand audio by reading captions of spoken information.

Captions are generated automatically on-device from any audio source and can be presented at the top, bottom, or in a floating window.

The Quick Access feature in File Explorer is getting an update from the tech giant. To begin, Pin to Quick Access capability has been expanded to include Files in addition to Folders.

It's also worth noting that pinned files are displayed in a new section above Recent files in Quick Access.

We've added OneDrive integration to File Explorer to help you keep track of your storage usage and make sure your files are syncing.

You may now monitor your sync status and quota consumption when browsing your OneDrive folders without having to exit File Explorer.

For those of you who use the new OS on tablets or phones, this version features five new touch gestures that make navigating Windows 11 on a PC with touch easier and faster.

Improved Snap Layouts, more sustainable power settings and recommendations, Task Manager Redesign & Efficiency Mode, and greater improvements to online browsing in Microsoft Edge with Narrator are among the other new features.

On the official Microsoft blog article, you can learn more about all of the changes and improvements made, as well as any known concerns.
