Microsoft's acquisition of Skype appears to be aimed at bringing the popular video calling service to a wider audience, including those using the company's new Chromium-based Edge browser.
Users can start a call with anyone using the new Meet Now tool, even if they don't have a Skype account. To use the functionality, go to Microsoft Edge's address bar and click the share icon, then pick Meet now.
From within the Microsoft Edge browser, users will be able to start a Meet Now call. This call can then be shared with others, who can join in either Skype or Microsoft Teams.
Once started, the call can be converted into an online meeting that anybody can participate, regardless of whether or not they have Skype.
It's unknown when this function will become more widely available to users, but it's likely that we'll hear more about it in the weeks and months leading up to its widespread availability.
Users may start a Skype call with only one click in the browser with Meet Now. There are no downloads or signups required, and you may share the link with others to invite them to join the call. Business meetings and other group discussions will most likely benefit from the tool.
Navigate to the Appearance page to enable the Meet Now option. You can also utilise the ellipsis menu to get the Meet Now option.
Although Skype already provides a web-based experience for users, this new feature will make things even easier for those who have Skype accounts.
For the time being, there are no details on whether this feature would be limited to Skype users or will be available on other platforms as well.
Users of Microsoft Edge who don't want to use Skype and don't want to download or install the Skype application may find the meet now option beneficial. They can use this functionality to initiate calls and even invite participants without having to download or log into any app.
The Meet Now service will most likely be seamlessly linked with Microsoft Edge, allowing users to start a Skype call from their web browser. Users of Windows are currently needed to install Skype in order to use the popular video chat programme.
The notion of a Meet Now button on the New Tab Page was loved by some, but loathed by others. When Microsoft released the new Microsoft Edge, the function was deleted and the button was disabled.
As a result, people have expressed their reservations about the new functionality coming to Microsoft Edge, and many are deciding whether to use Microsoft Teams or Skype.
Users can start a new conversation straight away or book a meeting for later by clicking the Meet Now option on the New Tab Page.
Microsoft will also make improvements to the way users may invite others to join a chat and switch a group conversation to Teams or Skype.
This function is comparable to Google's Meet Now service, which was released in Chrome last year. The Microsoft version, unlike Google's Meet Now feature, is not yet available to everyone.
This tool has been in the works at Google for a while, but it never made it into the public version of the browser. This capability is available in the Canary version of Microsoft Edge, according to Microsoft.
