My Philips espresso machine does not turn off its warning light

You can refer to the image below to fix your Philips espresso machine if the warning light is on and it won't turn off.

The "water tank empty" light is on

If it appears, that means the water tank is almost empty or that it is not in place.

You can fix this by removing the water tank and filling it with water. Push the water tank into the machine far enough so that the light goes out.

"Empty coffee grounds container" light is on

The warning light indicates that the ground container is full and needs to be emptied.

Be sure the machine is switched ON before emptying the coffee grounds container. Empty the grounds container from the drip tray. Reinstall everything in the machine.

There is an alarm going off

The warning light will illuminate if the grounds container or drip tray is not properly positioned, or if the service door is open.

Place the drip tray and grounds container back where they belong. Once the water tank is removed, close the access door.

The alarm light is flashing

If this warning light is on, it indicates that the brew group is not in place, positioned incorrectly, or is blocked.

Please follow these steps to fix this:

  1. Make sure the machine is completely turned off
  2. Remove the water tank by opening the service door
  3. Rinse the brew group under running water after removing it. Click the brew group back in place.
  4. Close the service door and replace the water tank
  5. Start the machine

Note: In case you found dry coffee powder in the coffee grounds container, the brew group was overfilled with ground coffee and dispensed it. When using pre-ground coffee, use one filled coffee spoon with pre-ground coffee, and strike off the top.

The alarm light is on and the start light flashes

If this warning light is on, it indicates that there is some air trapped inside the machine. To release the air from the machine, follow the steps below:

  1. Fill the water tank with water
  2. To use the classic milk frother, place a cup under the flashing start/stop button. In order to get rid of the air in the machine, the machine will begin to dispense hot water.

Follow these steps if this doesn't resolve the problem:

  1. Switch OFF the machine
  2. Remove the AquaClean filter from the water tank (if installed) and empty the water tank.
  3. Refill it with fresh water and place it back
  4. Turn the machine back on and let it heat up
  5. Dispense 2-3 cups of hot water by selecting hot water
  6. Replace the AquaClean filter and dispense 2-3 cups of hot water again if this works
  7. Flashing AquaClean light

If the AquaClean water filter warning light is illuminated, it indicates that the filter needs to be replaced/placed and activated.

For detailed step-by-step instructions on how to install and activate the AquaClean filter, please refer to the user manual or watch our video tutorial below.

The descaling light is flashing slowly

This warning light indicates that your machine needs to be descaled.

You can refer to the user manual or watch our video tutorial below for detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to descale your machine.

The lights of all warning icons are flashing

It means your machine needs a reset if all warning lights are flashing. Here's how to do it:

  1. Unplug the machine and turn it off
  2. Removing the AquaClean water filter from the water tank (if added)
  3. Refill the water tank with water and place it back
  4. Check to see if the coffee powder compartment is clogged with coffee powder. You can clean it with the end of a coffee spoon if you see a blockage
  5. Turn the machine back on by plugging it back in
  6. Dispense 2-3 cups of hot water by selecting hot water

The machine could be overheating if the lights continue to flash. Try turning it off for 30 minutes, then on again.
