In the never-ending Android vs. iPhone dispute, the Android camp frequently criticises iPhones as merely fashionable accessories. Android users argue that iPhones lack the substance to compete with Android flagships that include cutting-edge and inventive technology. iPhones are only purchased by individuals who want to flaunt their bitten apple logo. Many people say that the iPhone line's appearance is the series' most distinguishing feature and the sole reason why iPhones are so popular around the world.
We have opposing viewpoints. People do not purchase iPhones just for the purpose of flaunting them.
Apple's tech culture has always emphasised good design. This is because the unique design of the iPhones was expected to be a big element of their existence during the Jobs period and for a few years beyond. As a result, when a new iPhone is released, you can expect an entirely different design. From the original iPhone through the iPhone 6, however, we've seen iPhones with drastic design variances from their predecessors, allowing them to stand out not only from the Android crowd but also from prior iPhones.
However, it appears that design has taken a back seat in the iPhone's tale during the previous four years. The newly released iPhone SE 2022 was a dagger in the hearts of design enthusiasts, as it was essentially the iPhone 8, which was released in 2017 but with upgraded internals. We were transported to the past by the large bezels, round fingerprint scanner, and similar back. Calling Apple extremely design-driven would be an exaggeration given the design patterns it has followed for the iPhone over the last few years.
We say this because the design variations between the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro are so minor that most people won't be able to tell them different just by looking at them. The many hues that are generally distinctive to a certain series are usually covered by a phone case or replicated with skins. Even the iPhone 11 and 12 have very identical designs, with the 13's only design distinction being a diagonal camera layout on the rear.
Most consumers would still buy the considerably cheaper iPhone 11 Pro if they were only buying iPhones to show off, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro would be absolutely irrelevant. The sales data, on the other hand, tell a different narrative. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro were both hugely popular. Because of the popularity of iPhones, seeing one is no longer uncommon. It is the most popular phone in the world, including India. Apple sells more iPhones than any other phone brand in the world. And, with more people than ever before purchasing iPhones, the exclusivity element has all but vanished. As a result, claiming that individuals buy iPhones solely to showcase them seems a little illogical.
Why do people buy iPhones if the flaunt factor is gone?
Well, there are a number of good reasons why individuals acquire this item. The major advantage iPhones have over Android is regular software upgrades, even for five-year-old iPhones. The fact that even older iPhones get the same software and new functionality still getting introduced to them makes them worth the slightly higher price tag. This means that after purchasing an iPhone, you can get fresh, updated software for up to five years, keeping you up to speed with the majority of the new features available on newer iPhones.
Apart from regular software upgrades, iPhone specifications do not become obsolete as quickly as Android specifications. The performance of a three- or four-year-old iPhone is still excellent, whereas most Android smartphones are not. Even the almost two-year-old iPhone 12's chipset can handle high-end work and games as well as most of today's Android flagship phones.
The iPhone's resale value is a major component in making it a good investment. iPhones may be pricey when compared to the competition, but the fact that you can receive a very high resale value for a device you've used for years makes it an even better value for money proposition - something that many people don't equate with the phrase "iPhone."
Don't get us wrong: the iPhone's logo and design set it apart from the rest of the Android pack and add to the phone's worth. However, there is a lot of long-term substance and good old value hidden beneath all that elegance.
