Microsoft does take backups, but only for a limited time. Microsoft, for example, takes a backup of SharePoint every 12 hours and keeps it for 14 days. But that's not enough.
Altaro offers Office 365 backup options. Backups are available for your Office 365 mailboxes, OneDrive files, and SharePoint libraries.
Altaro's Microsoft Azure infrastructure will host the backups via an Online console.
