The short video format is gaining in popularity. Anyone, regardless of editing experience or tools, can make a short video. Most apps that accept short videos, such as YouTube and Instagram, have built-in editing features. Check out these YouTube Shorts creation and editing hints if you're not sure how to make them. Before you try the following instructions, make sure you have the most recent version of the YouTube app.
You have two options for starting and stopping your Shorts video when you're going to start recording it.
To use the first approach, click the red record button once to begin recording and again to stop it. In the second approach, you must press and hold the record button while recording and then release it when you are finished.
Like Instagram Reels and TikTok films, YouTube Shorts allows you to capture numerous sequences in one video. That is, you can create a large number of small videos, and they will all be automatically combined. To do so, use the Record button on each scene as usual. A red bar displays at the top of the timeline when you record a scene. Each scene is represented by a red bar, which is separated by white bars.
The red slider raises as you continue to record. The slider basically displays the duration of the movie, while the greyness tells how much more you can capture.
Press the Undo button at the bottom to remove the preceding scene from the recording. If you want to go back in time, use the Redo button.
Double-tap on the screen to move from back to front camera or vice versa while filming YouTube shorts. Tap on the Flip camera icon if that doesn't work.
You may have noticed that certain videos are either slow or too fast. A YouTube Shorts video's speed can be changed while it's being recorded.
On the recording screen, press the 1x icon to do so. The speed selections will appear in increments of 0.3x to 3x. Set the scene's speed to whatever you choose. Press the same icon again and select 1x speed to record at normal speed. On Android and iPhone, learn how to modify the video speed.
Set a countdown timer when recording a Shorts movie to record handsfree without pushing the Record button.
On the recording screen, tap the Timer icon to do so. Under the Countdown section, set the time after which the video should begin recording. Set a time for the recording to end using the slider. To see the endpoint, look at the timeline at the top. Finally, press the Start button.
When you're recording many scenes for the same video, you might want two of them to line up perfectly. That instance, the last scene of the first video should correspond to the opening scene of the second. This aids in the addition of and creation of unique transitions in your YouTube Shorts video.
Record the first video scene, then tap the Align (looks like a Ghost) symbol to align the footage. On the screen, you'll get a ghost-like preview of the preceding video. By aligning the scene with the ghost-like preview, you can begin recording the following scene. Toggle the Alignment mode off with the same button.
By default, YouTube allows you to make videos that are 15 seconds long. You can, however, alter the duration of YouTube Shorts to make a version that is up to 60 seconds long.
To do so, press the number 15 above the Record button. The number will be changed to 60. You can now capture videos up to one minute long.
You are not need to use the YouTube app to record a video. You can upload a video from your gallery to YouTube Shorts by pressing the Gallery icon on the left side of the Record button. After you've chosen a video, you can cut it to the length you want.
Please keep in mind that after you've filmed a scene, this icon will not appear. This button displays before any scenario is recorded. This is due to the fact that adding a video from the gallery and recording a video in the YouTube app are not compatible.
If you have an urgent task while creating YouTube Shorts, you can save the presently recorded video as a draught. You can keep filming more scenes for the draught video later.
Follow these steps to save the Shorts film as a draught and utilise it later:
1. Press the back button when you've finished recording video scenes (or use the back gesture).
2. A pop-up window will open, asking if you wish to save or delete the video. Save and Exit are the two buttons to press.
3. When you're ready to use the draught video again, hit the (+) icon in the YouTube app, then Create a Short.
4. A pop-up notice indicating that a draught is available will appear. To utilise the draught, click Continue, or to remove it, press Start afresh.
From the editing screen, you may also save a draught. Return to the previous screen and select Save modifications. Any changes you've made to the video will be saved when you save the draught. If you save a draught from the edit screen, however, you won't be able to shoot further scenes for the same video afterwards.
YouTube has a large music library that can be used in Shorts. You can add music to a YouTube Shorts video while it's being recorded or afterward. Currently, you are unable to import or upload music from local storage.
While recording, you can add music.
1. At the top of the recording screen, tap the Add sound button.
2. A list of available tunes will appear on the screen. To play a track, simply tap it. If you like it, you can add it to your video by pressing the blue arrow next to it. Alternatively, press the Save symbol to save the sound to your Favorites section, where you can immediately access it.
Follow these instructions to add music to the editing screen once you've finished recording the video:
1. Tap the Sound button on the edit screen. To add the sound to the video, select it and push the Blue arrow.
2. After you've added a soundtrack, use the Adjust option to choose whatever part of the music you'd like to include in the video.
3. Select Adjust sound or Erase sound from the Sound button to delete or change the soundtrack.
You can make a video utilising the same soundtrack as someone else's YouTube Shorts video if you like it. To do so, start by opening the video with the sound you want to use. On the following screen, tap the Sound button at the bottom, then Use this sound. This will take you to the recording screen for Shorts. You can also bookmark it for later by selecting Favorites at the top of the page.
Without words, a brief video is nearly unwatchable. By pressing the Text button on the editing screen, you can simply add text to your video. This will open the text editing window.
Choose a text colour from the drop-down menu
After you've added text, you may use movements to resize, rotate, and move it around.
You can add various text messages to your video that will appear throughout the video or for a specific amount of time. This creates the illusion of disappearing text, with one text vanishing and the next reappear, and so on.
Add the first text as shown above to accomplish this. Click the Text button once more to add more text. After that, tap the Timeline button to bring up the timeline view, where you can adjust the text's timing. Alternatively, you can open Timeline by tapping on the text and selecting Timing from the menu. To alter the time of the text slider on the Timeline, drag the white bars at each end.
Pro Tip: To reorder the text on the timeline, touch and hold it and drag it up or down.
To add a filter to the YouTube Shorts video, use the Filter button on the editing screen. Choose the desired effect from the drop-down menu.
