Although Starcraft 2 is one of the most popular RTS games for PC, it is not without bugs. Sometimes Windows 10's gaming experience is ruined by game crashes, black screens, slow menus, screen tearing, and low frame rates.

All of these problems can make Starcraft 2 almost unplayable, but there are a few things you can do to fix these problems on Windows 10.

I'm having problems launching Starcraft 2 on Windows 10. What can I do?

1. Run Starcraft II in compatibility mode

  1.  Go to Starcraft 2 installation directory and locate Starcraft 2 exe file. It should be called SC2.exe.
  2.  Right-click it, choose Properties and go to the Compatibility tab.
  3.  Choose Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 7 or Windows 8 from the dropdown menu.
  4.  Click Apply and OK to save changes.
  5.  Try running the game again.

Although this is a simple solution, users have confirmed that it fixes crashes for some of them.

2. Disable EVGA Precision X

The EVGA Precision X is a popular overclocking tool for Nvidia graphics cards. It has been reported that EVGA Precision X can cause Starcraft 2 crashes despite unlocking the full power of your graphics card.

In order to prevent Starcraft 2 crashes on Windows 10, make sure you turn off EVGA Precision X before you begin playing.

3. Update your graphic card drivers

Users have reported that Starcraft 2 crashes as soon as they start a game due to a fatal error. The game works for about 30 seconds before crashing.

The Nvidia drivers are causing this issue, and in order to fix it, you will need to update them.

To update your graphic drivers fast and without affecting your PC's functionality, it's recommended to use dedicated driver update software such as DriverFix.

4. Run Starcraft 2 as administrator

  1. Right-click the Starcraft 2 .exe file located in the Starcraft 2 installation directory.
  2. Select the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check the Run this program as administrator box.
  4. Save your changes by clicking Apply and OK, then try running the game again.

5. Set Starcraft II as an affinity

  1. Start Starcraft 2.
  2.  When the game starts press Alt + Tab to switch back to Windows 10.
  3.  Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to start Task Manager.
  4.  When Task Manager opens, go to the Details tab.
  5.  Now find the Starcraft 2 process in the list, right-click it and choose Set Affinity.
  6. When the new window opens make sure that you disable one CPU by unchecking it.
  7. Click OK to save the changes and go back to the game.

The Affinity setting for Starcraft 2 has been reported to fix menu lag, but unfortunately, you'll have to repeat this again and again.

It is possible to skip this step if you don't want to repeat it every time you start Starcraft 2. It is a bit advanced, so if you don't understand it, you may want to skip it.

  1. Check how many cores your computer has. From the Details tab, right-click any application and select Set Affinity. The number of CPUs will appear. Make sure you count CPU 0 as well.
  2.  Assume we have 4 cores in our example. The number 1 represents each running core, so if you have four cores, each running core is represented by number 1111. This number would be 11111111 if you have 8 cores, or 11 if you have 2 cores.
  3.  Now, if you want to deactivate one core, you just have to replace one number with zero, so if you have 4 cores and you want to disable one of them the number would change from 1111 to 0111 for example. In our example, we’ll use 0111.
  4.  The binary number from the previous step, in our case 0111, must now be converted to a decimal number. Many converters are available online for free. We have converted binary number 0111 to decimal number 7. Keep this number in mind.
  5.  Launch the Battle.net Launcher and click Starcraft 2 > Options > Game Settings.
  6.  Check Additional command-line arguments for Starcraft 2.
  7.  -affinity 7 is added. Use the number you obtained from Step 3. For us, it was 7.
  8.   Save the changes, and now Starcraft 2 will always run with one core disabled.

Again, if this seems too complicated for you, you can simply stick to the first part of our solution and manually set the affinity every time you launch Starcraft 2.

6. Disable Windows DVR

  1.  Launch the Xbox app.
  2.  Go to Settings.
  3.  Switch off Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR in the Game DVR tab.

7. Check your firewall

Some users report that the game will not start and will freeze during the authentication process. As a result, they are unable to access the main menu.

This issue can be fixed by starting the game and waiting for it to load properly, then switching back to Windows using Alt + Tab. Let Starcraft 2 bypass your firewall in the firewall popup message.

Additionally, make sure that Starcraft 2 isn't blocked by your firewall settings.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you might want to temporarily turn off your antivirus and firewall.

8. Start the game in windowed mode

  1.  Go to the Starcraft 2 tab in the Battle.net desktop application, and choose Options > Game Settings.
  2.  Add -Displaymode 0 to Additional command-line arguments every time you wish to run a Starcraft game in windowed mode.
  3.  Restart the game after saving the changes.
  4.  Restart the game in fullscreen mode and see if the problem persists.

9. Disable Vsync and reinstall Battle.net desktop app

Try disabling Vsync in Nvidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center for Starcraft 2 if you're experiencing black screen crashes.

Reinstall the Battle.net desktop app if that doesn't help.

10. Check your ports

Verify your ports

One expert tip: Some PC problems can be very difficult to resolve, especially when your files are missing or your repositories are corrupted. Your system may be partially broken if you are having trouble fixing an error. Restoro is an easy-to-use tool that will scan your machine and identify the problem.

You should make sure that ports TCP: 6112 and UDP:6112 are open if you get the BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 error as soon as you launch the game.

Many of the online services available to you can be used for this purpose. Check your firewall settings to see if these ports are blocked.

11. Delete the Battle.net folder and the Blizzard Entertainment folder

It has been reported that users are experiencing BLZBNTAGT0000096A error, and the only way to fix it is to remove the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders from the C:ProgramData folder.

You can try disabling all non-Microsoft services from the Startup before deleting these folders.

12. Disable SLI or Crossfire

Having two graphics cards and using them in SLI or Crossfire mode can sometimes result in better performance, but it can also cause graphical problems in Starcraft 2, such as flickering textures.

Starcraft 2's visual glitches can be fixed by disabling SLI or Crossfire and relaunching the game.

13. Use the 32-bit client instead of the 64-bit client

  1. Launch the Battle.net launcher.
  2. The Starcraft 2 tab will appear.
  3. Click Options in the Starcraft 2 tab.
  4. Choose Game settings from the Options menu.
  5.  In the Game settings, check the box next to the 32-bit client for Starcraft 2 games.
  6. Try starting your game again after clicking Done.

Then, Starcraft 2 will start in 32-bit mode and, according to users, will perform better.

In addition to improved performance, some players will also see a fix for error 0xc0000142 by using 32-bit client. Whenever the user launches the game, this error occurs, and switching to the 32-bit client fixes it.

Although 32-bit clients have their advantages, some users report that 32-bit clients cause fatal errors.

You might want to switch to the 64-bit client if you are using a 32-bit client and getting fatal errors.

We should point out that you can't switch to 64-bit version of Starcraft 2 if you're using 32-bit version of Windows 10.

14. Update your OS/ game

Many issues affecting Starcraft 2 can be resolved by installing the latest Windows 10 updates.

All games that you run on your machine depend on your OS to function correctly, so updating your machine is a must for a smooth gaming experience.

Install the latest Windows 10 patches on your computer by going to Start > typing 'settings' and opening the Settings page. Visit Update & Security > Windows Update and update your computer.

Check if the problem persists after installing the available updates, restarting your computer, and launching the game again.

15. Renew your IP and flush DNS

  1. Launch Command Prompt by right-clicking on the icon in the Start menu and choosing to run it as administrator.
  2. Run ipconfig /release
  3. You will receive a confirmation when the IP address has been released after a few seconds
  4. ipconfig /renew should be entered
  5. The IP address of your computer will be established once your computer has e-established it
  6. You can now flush DNS by entering ipconfig /flushdns
  7. Restart the game after you exit the Command prompt

16. Disable background apps

1.Go to Start > type msconfig then hit Enter to launch System Configuration

2.Go to the General tab > select Selective startup > uncheck Load startup items

3.disable startup items

4.Go to the Services tab > check Hide all Microsoft services > click Disable all.

Click Apply > click OK > Restart.
