Apple Reminders makes it easy for you to keep track of your tasks. You can make reminders, lists, smart lists, and even work with other people. In the end, things can go wrong when you try to sync those items with your Mac.
Sometimes, Reminders doesn't send a notification, or it doesn't keep your tasks in sync across all of your phones and tablets. If your iPhone and Mac aren't sharing reminders, we'll show you how to fix that in this post!
If you use the same Apple ID on all of your devices, make sure that the Reminders are syncing and that you have the same Apple ID on all of them, too! When you want to share your Reminders with other people, you need to look for the same Apple ID on all of them.
Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on your name at the top.
Step 2: Note down your Apple ID.
Step 3: On your Mac, click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select System Preferences from the drop-down.
Step 4: Click on Apple ID and ensure that both devices are using the same Apple ID. If they are different, you will need to log in with the same Apple ID on both devices.
Step 5: If both the devices are on the same Apple ID, you should log out and log in once to ensure a fresh sync action between Reminders and your devices.
Reminders, like other Apple apps, works with iCloud to make sure things stay the same on different phones and tablets. Check to see if iCloud sync is on on your iPhone and Mac.
Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on your name at the top.
Step 2: Then, tap on the iCloud option.
Step 3: Scroll down to find Reminders and ensure that the toggle is enabled. If it’s already enabled, toggle it off and back on.
Step 1: On your Mac, click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner, and click on System Preferences.
Step 2: Click on Apple ID on the right-hand side.
Step 3: Select iCloud from the left column and enable the checkbox next to Reminders on the right pane. If it’s already on, turn it off and turn it back on.
Sometimes, iCloud has trouble syncing across devices if all of the devices aren't up to date. It's usually a good idea to keep your Mac and iPhone up to date with the most recent software.
Step 1: On your iPhone, launch Settings and open General.
Step 2: Now, tap on Software Update.
Step 3: Update your iPhone if there’s any pending update available.
Step 1: On your Mac, click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences from the drop-down.
Step 2: On the System Preferences page, click on Software Update.
Step 3: Install any pending updates if available.
A sync error may happen if your device has a different date and time set up. If your iPhone and Mac aren't in the same time zone, we can't fix it.
Step 1: On your iPhone, open the Settings apps and tap on General.
Step 2: Tap on ‘Date & Time.’
Step 3: Enable the toggle next to Set Automatically.
Step 1: On your Mac, use the Apple Menu to open System Preferences.
Step 2: Now, click on ‘Date & Time.’
Step 3: Click on the Lock icon and authenticate with your password to open.
Step 4: Select the checkbox next to ‘Set date and time automatically.’
Step 5: As an added measure, click on Time Zone and enable ‘Set time zone automatically using current location.’
Then, restart the Reminders app on both your phones. On your Mac, press CMD+Q to close the app. On your iPhone, swipe up to close the Reminders app.
This doesn't work if you follow the steps above. You will need to reset the Network Settings on your iPhone. It's very likely that after you do this, you'll be able to sync your iPhone again. As soon as you reset the network settings, the Wi-Fi login information is gone. You will need to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
Step 1: Launch the Settings app and tap on General.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Transfer or Reset iPhone.’
Step 3: Tap on Reset.
Step 4: Select Reset Network Settings.
Step 5: Enter your phone’s passcode to start the network reset process.
Finally, restart your iPhone and Mac to make sure all the changes have worked.
To restart your Mac, click the Apple Menu and choose Restart.
For people who don't know how to shut down the newer iPhone X and later models, press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button at the same time. This will bring up the power-off screen.
To turn the phone off, slide the power button icon from left to right.
Press and hold the Power button to restart the device. Wait a minute, then do this:
Reminders should work across all of your devices without a hitch if you follow the steps above. If this happens a lot on your devices, you might want to look into Reminders alternatives like TickTick.
