FaceTime links were introduced in iOS 15 by Apple, allowing you to FaceTime with non-Apple users such as Android and Windows users. These connections can be renamed, shared via apps, used to make FaceTime calls from non-Apple devices, scheduled FaceTime calls, and more. We'll learn everything there is to know about FaceTime links in this article. Let's get this party started.
FaceTime links are basic web connections created in the FaceTime programme on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to video contact people who don't have an Apple device. Once you've created a FaceTime link, send it to the people you want to see it. People may practically join a FaceTime call from any device because the connections open in a browser.
Here are a few things to keep in mind concerning FaceTime connectivity.
Apple devices are the only ones that can create FaceTime links. Here's how to create and share a FaceTime link on your iPhone or iPad.
1. Launch the FaceTime application.
2. Select the Create link option from the drop-down menu.
3. The Share sheet will open and the link will be established. To share the link, choose an app or press Copy. You can then paste the copied URL into an e-mail or a chat later.
4. After you share the connection, the name of the FaceTime link will appear in the Upcoming area of the FaceTime app's home screen. To join the call, tap the link name and then the Join button.
All FaceTime links will appear in the app by default with the name FaceTime links. You can rename the links as they're being created to distinguish between various calls. For example, you might have link names like client meeting, family call, book session, and so on.
Follow these procedures to rename a link:
1. In the FaceTime app, tap the Create link button.
2. Under the FaceTime link on the Share sheet, you'll notice Add name. Tap it and type in your name. Press the "OK" button. That is all there is to it.
The new call name will show up in the FaceTime app.
You can send FaceTime links in three different ways. The first one, where you can send a link once you generate it, was already discussed in the "how to make a FaceTime link" part. You can share a FaceTime connection after you've created it or while on a FaceTime call.
1. After you establish a FaceTime link, all of the links you create will display on the app's main screen. Next to the link, tap the I icon. On the next screen, click the Share URL option and choose an app to share or copy the link.
2. From the middle of a call, send a FaceTime link
You can share a FaceTime link with multiple people if you have access to it, whether you established it or joined a FaceTime call via a link.
If you're already on a FaceTime call with your iPhone, tap the call name at the top of the screen and select Share link.
Similarly, if you joined via a web browser, click the Share link option from the three-dot icon in the call toolbar at the top.
Without sharing the link, you can invite and add existing FaceTime users to calls made through links. In a FaceTime call, touch on the call toolbar and then on the Add people button. Add the FaceTime users to the call by selecting them.
Open the FaceTime link in a web browser, preferably Chrome or Edge, once you've received it. You will be prompted to provide your name. After you've typed the name, click the Continue button. On the next screen, select Join. You will be placed on a waiting list until the call's author accepts your request to join.
A join request will be sent to the developer every time someone tries to join a FaceTime call via a link. The "X number of persons waiting" notification will appear in the call toolbar if you are the creator. It should be tapped. The names of those on the waiting list will appear on the next screen. Allow someone by using the green checkmark button, or reject them by tapping the red (X) icon.
The creator will get a request preview on the screen whenever someone tries to join a FaceTime call. It might be aggravating for the creator if multiple people try to join a call. The Silence join requests option can be enabled by the designer to make things easier. The join requests will show silently if this option is enabled. Instead of notifications showing up on the screen, the author can view the requests at his or her leisure.
Toggle the toggle next to Silence join requests on the call toolbar to activate it.
You may now arrange FaceTime calls using links, as illustrated below.
1. On your phone, open the Apple Calendar app.
2. At the top, tap the Add (+) symbol.
3. The screen for the new event will display. Fill in the FaceTime call's title. Select FaceTime from the following screen after tapping on Location or Video call.
Create a FaceTime link and copy-paste its link into the Location form, as seen earlier.
4. Press the Add button after setting the start and finish times for the FaceTime call.
5. Open the FaceTime app, and the planned call will appear on the home screen. Share the FaceTime connection with your friends and family.
FaceTime links are unique in that they can be used again and again. Once you've created a link, you can use it again and again for calls with the same folks. Essentially, the FaceTime links do not expire on their own. To make the link unusable, the call's author must delete it. The FaceTime link expires after the creator deletes the link.
Swipe left on the link name on the app's home screen to erase it, then hit the Delete button.
Alternatively, click Delete link from the I button next to the link name.
Calls can be started using FaceTime links from Android or Windows devices. Make a note of any FaceTime links you have. When you're ready, visit the bookmarked URL and hit the Join icon to begin a FaceTime call. The call's author will be notified that "someone has requested to join." To join a FaceTime call begun by a non-Apple user, tap the notification.
Links has finally made it feasible for non-Apple users to FaceTime. In the future, we hope Apple adds more fascinating FaceTime features. For the time being, learn how to record FaceTime calls and share your FaceTime screen.
